Road Directions from the main entry routes serving Piedmont & Northern Italy

 

From Mont Blanc tunnel

  •       Go through the Mont Blanc tunnel - [exiting tunnel @908km, if you are going back through the tunnel in 7 days get a return it is much, much cheaper]
  •       Take the Italian Autostrada A5 (sign colours change: they are green for motorways in Italy)
  •       Past Ivrea take the A4/5 heading for Genova
  •       Stay on the motorway until you are forced onto the A26 heading south to Genova and continue on the A26 to Alessandria Sud exit(Uscita) - [@1130km
  •       Having gone through the toll you need to bear right immediately heading for Acqui Terme on the SR30. This is a normal A road and continues for about 5-7 km where you will notice going up a longish hill. On the right there will be sign posted direction for Mombaruzzo, take it and follow the road across a small roundabout through some country and a small village. About 1 km past the small village there will be a sign for Fontanile to the Left, take this winding road through even more country all the way until you reach a T junction, turn right and follow the road for 2 km into the village of "Mombaruzzo Stazione”. You come to a set of crossroads next to a cafe/bar and need to turn left. Drive over the railway crossing and take the next right up the hill towards Fontanile.
  •       From Fontanile  Follow the road into Fontanile and past the Post Office (Yellow PT sign) follow the road as it bears right (ie don't go down the old high street). Continue on the road bypassing main village and out the other side, you should then go past the Cantina di Fontanile, the wine factory with large aluminium storage tanks on your right. At the top of the hill there will be a road on the left for "Casteletto Molina", take it and 50 mtrs on your right will be a narrow road which drops down significantly and bears to the right. Follow this steeply down the hill and take the left forked road after 50 mtrs. Follow this for 2/300 mtrs (single Lane) and La Granica is the first driveway on the left.

There are alternative ways to get here by going via Luxembourg and Switzerland and not through the Mont Blanc.

 

From Turin Airport (70 minutes)
Take the Autostrada A21 in the direction of Piacenza. On the A21 you will pass motorway intersections for Cuneo, ignore these and keep straight on to Asti, which will be signposted. You must exit "Uscita" the autostrada at "Asti Est" having passed "Asti Ovest" Having gone through the toll you need to head onto a slip road signposted for Alba and Cuneo (the S231), it will lead to a dual carriageway and follow this for about 5 km and take the exit for Acqui Terme and Nizza Monferrato (S456). Follow this road all the way to Nizza Monferrato where you will end up turning right into the main square in the town centre. Passing down one side of the square there will be a supermarket called Gullivers on the right, keep going and at the end of the square bear right signposted Canelli. Go over the brow of the hill and take the 2nd left turn across the traffic Signposted Acqui Terme, you will soon pass through a 200metre tunnel and end up at a roundabout. Take first exit to the right, this is still the S456 to Acqui Terme. Follow road for 5-6 km, going up-hill and winding, where you must go straight on over a crossroads, immediately you will pass a "API" petrol station & Coffee shop on the left. Continue going up the hill for about 1-2 km. At the top of the hill, on a blind right hand corner, there will be a left turn to "Fontanile", Take it and follow road for about 3-4 km. There will be a road on the right for "Casteletto Molina", take it and 50 mtrs on your right will be a narrow road which drops down significantly to the right. Follow this steeply down the hill and take the left forked road after 50 mtrs. Follow this for 2/300 mtrs (single Lane) and La Granica is the first driveway on the left.

 

From Milan Malpensa Airporrt (90 minutes)
Take the Autostrada A7 in the direction of Genova. Before you get to Tortona the motorway turns into the A21 Torino-Piacenza-Brescia in the direction of Torino. Take the exit marked Alessandria Sud. Having gone through the toll you need to bear right immediately heading for Acqui Terme on the SR30. This is a normal A road and continue for about 5-7 km where you will notice going up a longish hill. On the right there will be sign posted direction for Mombaruzzo, take it and follow the road across a small roundabout through some country and a small village. From Genoa Airport (60minutes)
Take the Autostrada A26 in the direction for Torino. Exit the toll motorway at the Alessandria Sud exit. Having gone through the toll you need to bear right immediately heading for Acqui Terme on the SR30. This is a normal A road and continue for about 5-7 km where you will notice going up a longish hill. From the UK through the channel tunnel or ferries from Calais we suggest you head through France towards The Mont Blanc tunnel

  •       You will need to pay for the use of these motorways approx 130 Euro in total which includes the Mont Blanc toll.
  •       Exit ports and head for Reims/Paris on the A26 and stay on the A26 to Reims - [central Reims is 277km from Calais]
  •       Just past Reims, Take the A4 heading Troyes/Dijon/Lyon
  •       Stay on the following motorways. The A4 then the A26 then the A5 then finally on the A31 until Dijon (these motorways just merge into each other)
  •       Near Dijon take the A39 heading for Dole, Bourg En Bresse & Geneva - [Dijon is 590km from Calais]
  •      Follow the A39 then the A40 to Geneva
  •       Pass Geneva on the A40 heading for Torino, Milano & Mont Blanc - [passing Geneva @774km]
  •       Go through the Mont Blanc tunnel - [exiting tunnel @908km, if you are going back through the tunnel in 7 days get a return it is much, much cheaper]

There are alternative ways to get here by going via Luxembourg and Switzerland and using other Alpine crossings.
